Gareth Looker is a Labour Councillor representing Helston North since 2021. He is the Chair of Helston Town Council’s Planning Committee. He’s also a Councillor on Wendron Parish Council. Originally from London, he graduated in 1982 from Swansea University with a degree in Social History and Politics. He then moved into the world of marketing, working in several advertising agencies before setting up his own business as a marketing consultant in 1992. That brings him into contact with many small businesses, predominantly owner managed and predominantly in manufacturing, technology and services. Having been a lifelong Labour voter his work gives him a valuable insight into what motivates people to behave the way they do, nicely tying in his political activities with his undergraduate education all those years ago. A firm believer in how economic strategy can forge a better society, Gareth’s personal experience as a user of the NHS and the state education system means he is a passionate advocate for greater investment in both. Having been a visitor to Cornwall for the last twenty years visiting his in-laws he finally moved here in 2018. He is married with two grown-up daughters.
